I hereby acknowledge that I work on what always was and always will be the land of the Boon wurrung/Bunurong people of the Kulin nation. I pay my respects to Elders past and present, as well as to all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the wider community and beyond. Indigenous sovereignty has never been ceded.
Life is but a Dream
‘Life is but a Dream’ is the title of this body of work, completed over two years of extended lockdowns. Borrowed from the popular children’s rhyme, the words pertain to our humanity as we question our existential relevance in the bigger scheme of things and as we row our boat down a stream towards the unknown. Anchored in a reverence of the ever-changing atmospheric effects of water, the sea and sky, the pull of the tides by the moon; we dream. The work implies the nostalgia of memory, a connection beyond the self and struggle in the world, elevating above and into the landscape, sensing hope in the the fragility of the luminous, physical and momentary.
Sarah Bell is a painter who lives and works from Balnarring on the Mornington Peninsula,Victoria.
